This policy explains what you pay for, how subscriptions renew, how to cancel, when we refund, and how to raise a complaint about a payment. It forms part of our Terms of Use. Nothing in it removes any right you have under the Consumer Act of the Philippines (Republic Act No. 7394) or the Internet Transactions Act of 2023 (Republic Act No. 11967), and where this policy is less generous than the law, the law wins.
1. What you can buy
| Plan or item | What you get | How it is charged |
|---|---|---|
| Free account | Browse the catalog, play the free preview lessons, and use the law library | Nothing. No card is required and none is asked for. |
| Bar Review pass | The Bar Review courses for the current cycle, with the schedule that ends with the Bar examination | Paid once for the cycle, or through a 0%-interest instalment plan where the plan is offered for that cycle |
| Individual course or subject | The course you selected, and its examinations, for the licence term shown at checkout | Paid once, or as shown at checkout |
| AI token packs | Extra AI study and grading tokens for your account | Paid once; unused tokens stay on your account and do not expire |
The plans actually on sale, and their current prices, are the ones shown on the pricing and checkout pages when you buy. Prices are in Philippine pesos and include the taxes we must charge. A price we change never applies to a period you have already paid for. We may also sell a monthly all-access plan for one or more of our programme lines from time to time; if we do, it appears on the pricing and checkout pages with the price and terms then applying to it, and the rules in §2.1(1) and §3 below apply to that plan.
2. When we refund — and when we do not
2.1 We refund in these cases
- You changed your mind — within seven (7) days. For the Bar Review pass for the current cycle, and for any recurring plan then on sale, write to us within seven (7) calendar days of your first payment for that item and we refund the amount you paid, provided you have not drawn substantial value from it. For this purpose “substantial value” means: you have not completed more than four (4) lessons and you have not sat more than one (1) quiz or mock examination and you have not used more than twenty percent (20%) of your AI token allowance. This is our own good-faith promise, over and above what the law requires; it applies once per account.
- A duplicate or erroneous charge. If you are charged twice for one purchase, charged after you cancelled, or charged an amount different from the price shown at checkout, we refund the excess in full as soon as we confirm it.
- An unauthorised transaction. If your payment method was used for a BATAS purchase without your authority, tell us at once; we investigate with the payment processor and refund a charge that was not authorised.
- We did not deliver, and could not fix it. If a paid feature, course, or examination you bought is unavailable because of a fault on our side, and we cannot restore it within a reasonable time (normally fourteen (14) days from your report, or before the date on which you needed it to be useful, whichever is earlier), we refund the part of the price that corresponds to what you never received or could not use.
- A defective or improperly delivered service. Where the Consumer Act gives you a remedy for a service that was not rendered with due care and skill or that was not reasonably fit for its purpose, we honour it, including refund where refund is the appropriate remedy.
- We discontinue what you paid for. Where we permanently discontinue the paid Service as a whole, we refund the unused part of your prepaid period; where we discontinue a course or module you paid for, we offer an equivalent or refund the proportionate unused part (Terms of Use §15).
- Purchased tokens you have not used. If you bought an AI token pack and have not used it, write to us within fourteen (14) days and we refund it; unused tokens you do not ask us to refund simply stay on your account.
2.2 We do not refund in these cases
- You simply stopped studying after the seven-day window, or used the material substantially before asking.
- Your examination result was not what you hoped. We make no guarantee about any result (Terms of Use §18), and an examination result — the Bar, a school subject, a licensure examination, a grade — is not a ground for a refund. If you believe a BATAS score or a piece of material is wrong, tell us: we correct material errors, and we will review automated grading on request.
- You disagree with the law, with a doctrine, or with a model answer. Where official sources differ from our summary, the official source governs; that is not a defect in the Service. A reported error that we confirm is corrected in the ordinary course of maintenance.
- Termination for your breach. If we terminate your account for a breach of the Terms of Use — sharing credentials, redistributing our material, scraping, proctoring fraud, or an attack on the Service — the unused period is not refunded.
- Your device or connection is not adequate. The Service needs a reasonably current browser or the desktop application and a working internet connection. That is stated in the application requirements, and a device that cannot run the Service is not a defect in the Service.
- One-off promotional prices, bundled free periods, and non-cash credits have no cash value and are not refundable in cash.
3. Cancelling a plan that renews
This section applies if you hold a plan that renews automatically.
- From your account: open Billing in batas.org and cancel the plan you no longer want. The change takes effect immediately as a stop on the next charge.
- By email: write to batas.org@gmail.com from the email address on your account, telling us which plan you are cancelling. We confirm in writing, and if we cannot, we tell you why.
- What happens next: the current paid period runs to its end and your access continues until it ends. There is no refund of the current period as such — if you are inside the seven-day change-of-mind window of §2.1(1), say so in the same message and that is handled as a refund.
- After it ends: your account stays, your free access stays, and your progress records stay. You may buy again at any time at the price then in force, which may be different.
- Instalment plans: if you cancel an instalment plan, no further instalments are charged, access continues to the end of the instalment period you have already paid for, and instalments already paid are not refunded except under §2.1(1)-(6). Bar Review passes end with their cycle.
- Failed instalments: if an instalment does not go through, we tell you and may suspend paid access until it does. Access is restored when the pending amount is settled.
4. How a refund is paid, and how long it takes
- Same way you paid. A refund goes back to the payment method you used. Where a payment was made in cash, the refund is made in cash, as the Internet Transactions Act requires for cash transactions.
- No deduction. We do not charge a refund fee, and we do not deduct the payment processor’s fee from your refund.
- How long. We decide on a refund request within seven (7) calendar days of receiving it and tell you the outcome in writing. Once approved, we instruct the refund immediately; the money normally reaches you within five (5) to ten (10) banking days, depending on your bank, e-wallet, or card issuer, which controls the final timing.
- What we may need. The email address on the account, the reference number on the receipt or on the transaction, and — where the request concerns an unauthorised charge — enough information to let us investigate without asking you to send us a full card number. Never send us your card number, your one-time PIN, or your password.
- Receipts. Every sale has an electronic receipt or invoice available in your Billing page, and we can email it to you at any time.
5. Disputes, complaints, and your statutory rights
- Tell us first. Write to batas.org@gmail.com with your account email, the transaction reference, what went wrong, and what you want us to do. This is our internal redress mechanism. We aim to resolve it in writing, and under the Internet Transactions Act of 2023 and its implementing rules we treat it as exhausted if it is not resolved within seven (7) calendar days.
- Then, if you need to: you may bring the matter to the Department of Trade and Industry or use the DTI’s Online Dispute Resolution facility for online transactions at https://odr.dti.gov.ph; to the DTI E-Commerce Bureau for an online-business complaint; to the National Privacy Commission if the complaint is about your personal data; or to the courts, including through the small-claims procedure where the amount allows.
- Two years. Under the Internet Transactions Act, an action for damages or for administrative penalties arising from an internet transaction may be brought within two (2) years from the cause of action. Nothing in this policy shortens a period the law gives you.
- Chargebacks. You are always free to ask your bank or card issuer to reverse a charge. We ask that you tell us first, because we can usually fix the problem in a day; and if you do file a chargeback, please send us the reference so we can respond with the transaction record. Filing a chargeback for a purchase you received — rather than for a billing error — ends your access to the Service while the dispute is pending.
- Statutory rights preserved. Nothing in this policy waives, excludes, or limits any right or remedy you have under the Consumer Act of the Philippines, the Internet Transactions Act of 2023, the Civil Code, or any other law, and any term of this policy that would do so is to that extent void and of no effect.
