PRESIDENTIAL DECREE NO. 98, January 15, 1973

REGULATING THE ISSUANCE OF LICENSE PLATES OF ALL MOTOR VEHICLES.

Presidential Decrees January 15, 1973



To promote traffic safety at night for the welfare of the public and in order
to further aid the campaign against night crimes and lawlessness, I, FERDINAND
E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by
the Constitution, as Commander-in-Chief of all the Armed Forces of the
Philippines, and pursuant to Proclamation No. 1081, dated September 21, 1972,
and General Order No. 1, dated September 22, 1972, as amended, do hereby order
and decree:

SECTION 1. The Bureau of Land Transportation shall cause
reflective number plates to be prepared and issued to owners of motor vehicles
and trailers registered under R.A. 4136, charging for each pair, including the
numerals indicating the year of registry, a fee of not more than 15% higher than
the acquisition cost.

SEC. 2. All motor vehicles exempted from payment of
registration fees, motor vehicles for hire and privately-owned motor vehicles
shall bear plates so designed and reflectorized with different colors as to
distinguish one class from another.

SEC. 3. No two-license plate numbers bearing the same
numerals shall be issued to any motor vehicle regardless of the place of issue
or the type, kind or ownership of the motor vehicle.

SEC. 4. Republic Act No. 4136 is hereby amended accordingly
and Republic Act No. 5715 is hereby repealed.

SEC. 5. This Decree shall take effect immediately.

Done in the City of Manila, this 15th day of January, in the year of Our
Lord, nineteen hundred and seventy-three.
