PROMULGATION OF THE CODE OF PROFESSIONAL ETHICS FOR OPTOMETRISTS

WHEREAS, the Board of Optometry (the “Board”) is empowered to “(h) adopt, promulgate, and disseminate the Code of Ethics for the practice of optometry in the Philippines” (Sec. 12 – Functions and Powers of the Board – R.A. No. 8050, known and cited as the Revised Optometry Law of 1995”);

WHEREAS, the Board shall adopt the Professional Code of Ethics prescribed by the Integrated Philippine Association of Optometrists, Inc. (IPAO) (Sec. 40. – Code of Professional Ethics – supra law); and

WHEREAS, the Integrated Philippine Association of Optometrists, Inc. (IPAO), the national organization of optometrists recognized by the Board and the Professional Regulation Commission (the “Commission”) pursuant to Section 36 of supra law and Board Resolution No. 2, Series of 1998, submitted on June 5, 2006 to the Board the former’s prescribed Code of Professional Ethics for Optometrists for adoption by the latter;

NOW, THEREFORE, the Board RESOLVES, as it is hereby RESOLVED, to adopt and promulgate the Professional Code of Ethics for Optometrists prescribed by the Integrated Philippine Association of Optometrists, Inc. (IPAO), attached as Annex “A”* to this Resolution and made and integral part thereof.

This Resolution shall take effect after fifteen (15) days following its complete and full publication in the Official Gazette or in any newspaper of general circulation in the Philippines.

Let copies of this Resolution be given to the Integrated Philippine Association of Optometrists, Inc. (IPAO) and other affiliate associations of optometrists for dissemination to their members and to all schools/colleges/universities offering the course of optometry for use of their graduates and students.
