PROCLAMATION NO. 337, September 12, 1952
CALLING UPON ALL CITIZENS AND RESIDENTS OF THE PHILIPPINES TO UNDERTAKE THE PLANTING OF TREES AND PLANTS OF ECONOMIC VALUE.
WHEREAS, under Proclamation No. 30 dated July 30,
1947, the Second Saturday of September of each year was declared as Arbor Day
in order to draw the attention of the people to the importance of trees and
plants in their everyday life;
WHEREAS, it is important that the interest in the
planting of trees and plants awakened should be kept alive continuously so as
to the national economy; and
WHEREAS, this objective could only be attained by
pooling together the efforts of all citizens and residents of this country;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Elpidio Quirino, President of
the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law do hereby urge and
call upon all citizens and residents of the Philippines to plant trees and
plants of economic value throughout the year, particularly on vacant lots, to
replace those of unproductive value, and to take good care of them in order that
they may develop to maturity.
I enjoin the Department of Agriculture and
Natural Resources to lead in this movement through the provincial agricultural
supervisors and municipal agricultural inspectors and other field men, and to
furnish the planting materials from the different experiment stations, plant
and forest nurseries and seed farms under the Bureau of Plant Industry,
Forestry and Agricultural Extension in order to carry out this objective.
I also enjoin the Secretary of Education to see
to it that each pupil and teacher, both in public and private schools, plant
trees and plants on their respective school grounds and homes; the Secretary of
Public Works and Communications to have the parks and roadsides planted with
trees and plants; and the provincial governors and municipal and city mayors to
lead the citizens and residents in their respective community in tree planting.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand
and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.

September, in the year of Our Lord, nineteen hundred and fifty-two, and of the
