PRESIDENTIAL DECREE NO. 254, July 24, 1973

EXTENDING THE PERIOD OF VOTING AND CANVASS IN CONNECTION WITH THE REFERENDUM SET ON JULY 27, 1973, UNDER PRESIDENTIAL DECREE NO. 228, DATED JUNE 26, 1973.

Presidential Decrees July 24, 1973



WHEREAS, the Commission on Elections has reported that a
great number of voters for the referendum on July 27, 1973 had been registered,
in view of which there is widespread apprehension that they may not all be
accommodated in one day; and

WHEREAS, it is necessary that all these registered voters be
given the fullest opportunity to exercise their right to express their views on
the question proposed in the referendum;

NOWTHEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the
Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by the Constitution as
Commander-in-Chief of all the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and pursuant to
Proclamation No. 1081, dated September 21, 1972, and General Order No. 1, dated
September 22,1972,do hereby extend the period of voting to July 28, 1973, and
the period of canvass of votes until such time as the Commission on Elections
may deem it necessary to complete the same.

This Decree shall take effect immediately.

Done in the City of Manila, this 24th day of July, in the year of Our Lord,
nineteen hundred and seventy-three.
